Cefixime is a prescription-only antibiotic, which used to be given for the sexually transmitted disease gonorrhea. Cefixime is no longer recommended for the treatment of gonorrhea.
Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted disease (STD) that infects both men and women. It causes infections of the genitals, rectum and throat. It is common, especially among young people between ages of 15 and 24 years. It occurs either with vaginal, anal or oral sex with someone who has been infected with gonorrhea.
